1. Triggers lung disease
Just like cigarettes, vaping or electronic cigarettes can also cause lung problems. Quoted from the American Lung Association page, vape contains dangerous chemicals such as acetaldehyde, acrolein and formaldehyde which can trigger lung diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Not only that, the vitamin E acetate in vape is also said to trigger lung damage called EVALI. This condition is characterized by chest pain and shortness of breath.
2. Disrupts heart health
Apart from the lungs, the chemical content in vape can also trigger heart health problems. Just like cigarettes, vapes also contain nicotine which can trigger plaque buildup in the blood vessels. This can inhibit blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body, and cause conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, heart attack, and even stroke.
3. Triggers cancer
As previously explained, vapes can contain a dangerous chemical called formaldehyde. This compound can appear when the vape liquid is heated for too long, or when the vape liquid comes into contact with the heating components of the vape.
Formaldehyde is a compound that is carcinogenic, meaning it can cause cancer. In other words, the habit of vaping can increase the risk of being exposed to carcinogenic substances and developing cancer.
4. Causes Fertility Problems
One of the dangers of vaping for women is that it can cause fertility problems. Quoted from the Fertility Centers of New England page, the chemicals contained in vape can reduce the uterus' ability to produce healthy eggs. This makes it more difficult for women who vape frequently to get pregnant.
5. Harms the fetus
Just like cigarettes, vaping can also be harmful to the fetus. The nicotine content in vape can affect the growth and development of the developing fetus's brain and lungs. Vaping also increases the risk of the fetus experiencing premature birth, birth defects, and miscarriage.
In addition, breast milk exposed to nicotine can cause babies to experience colic, or cry for no apparent reason. Please remember, this does not only happen to women who smoke, but also those who inhale cigarette smoke (passive smoking).
